A double layer forming fabric consists of one set of longitudinal and two sets of transverse fiber heddles. The bottom is made of coarser fibers. This weaving method can effectively retain fine fibers, resulting in better paper forming properties. Compared to a single layer forming fabric design, the dimensional stability of a double layer is increased. It is commonly used in the production of writing paper and kraft paper.
The 2.5 layer forming fabric features an additional transverse braided line at the top, building upon the double layer design. This optimizes fiber retention while maintaining good dewatering properties, significantly reducing the distance between the top lines and providing excellent support for fine fibers. It can be used in medium- and high-speed paper machines to produce high-grade paper.
